description

A 1930s vintage pottery sugar bowl, measuring approximately 4cm (1.55in) in height and 8.9cm (3.5in) in diameter, in pale cream glaze with green rim and an attractive Art Deco style handpainted pattern of orange branches (in orange, green and black) to the exterior; the base bears a blurred and partially illegible gilt script mark ("Sy???? Ware / MADE IN / ENGLAND") together with the black painted code "40A".  This would have been a cheaply produced item of mediocre quality, and as such it is not truly circular in shape, whilst there are numerous spot marks and tiny pockmarks in the glaze, which is finely crazed throughout with some light brown staining to the interior; there is some age wear including a few light scratches and small patches / spots of abrasion to the surface and slight wear to the painted decoration.
