A large c.1930s vintage Art Deco bell-shaped globe-type lampshade / light shade, suitable for use with a ceiling fitting or standard lamp, in pale yellow / honey flake glass (with shiny surface to exterior) with horizontal gilt banding, measuring approximately 20cm (7.85in) in height and 20.5cm (8.05in) in diameter (max), with the opening measuring approximately 9.8cm (3.85in) in external diameter. The shade is supplied with a vintage off-white plastic 4 1/4 inch gallery (shade holder) with metal bolts, marked "MADE IN ENGLAND / 1 / G. 6/2" to the inside, and measuring approximately 11.5cm (4.55in) in external diameter with lampholder hole approximately 2.9cm (1.15in) in diameter; this gallery remains in good condition for its age, although there is some discoloration (especially around the lampholder hole), slight stress cracking between the bolt holes and the rim, and some surface rust to the bolts. (If preferred, reproduction galleries in brass and chrome are available from specialist suppliers.) There is a pair of short adjacent cracks to the side of the shade with slight bruising between (overall length approximately 2.5cm / 1in), although this defect is presumably to the inner layer of glass only as it cannot be felt on the outside of the shade; there is some age wear to the shade including scratching and scuffing to the surface (especially to the centre), slight surface marking and considerable wear to the gilt, whilst there are some chips together with nibbling and roughness around the edge of the opening (which is of course hidden by the gallery when the shade is in use); there are some manufacturing imperfections in the glass including lines and air bubbles. Please note that this shade is rather heavier than an ordinary glass pendant shade (about 820g / 1.8lb), and will therefore need to be hung from a chain or sturdy stem if it is to be used as a pendant light.
