A large Art Deco globe-type lampshade / light shade of typically 1940s style, suitable for use with a ceiling fitting or standard lamp, in pale pink glass with a pattern of external frosting (with thin vertical clear lines) and horizontal gilt banding, measuring approximately 21cm (8.25in) in height and 20cm (7.85in) in diameter (max), with the opening measuring approximately 9.9cm (3.9in) in external diameter. The shade will need to be used in conjunction with a 4 1/4 inch gallery (shade holder); this is not included, but reproductions in brass or chrome finish are available from specialist dealers. There is some marking to the textured areas, together with age wear including slight scratching, scuffing and marking to the clear areas and slight to moderate wear to the gilt; the edge of the opening is somewhat rough with a few chips (the largest approximately 1 x 0.4cm / 0.4 x 0.15in) and numerous nibbles (which are of course hidden by the gallery when the shade is in use); there are some manufacturing imperfections in the glass including lines and air bubbles. Please note that the shade is fairly heavy (about 550g / 1.2lb); if it is to be used as a pendant light we would therefore recommend that it be hung from a fitting with a chain or sturdy stem.
