A large Art Deco globe-type lampshade / light shade of typically 1940s style, suitable for use with a ceiling fitting or standard lamp, in pink glass with a pattern of external frosting (with thin vertical clear lines) and horizontal gilt banding, measuring approximately 20cm (7.85in) in height and 20cm (7.85in) in diameter (max), with the opening measuring approximately 10.2cm (4in) in external diameter. The shade will need to be used in conjunction with a 4 1/4 inch gallery (shade holder); this is not included, but reproductions in brass or chrome finish are available from specialist dealers. There is some marking to the frosted areas, together with some scratching and age wear to the clear areas and the gilt; the edge of the opening is somewhat rough with small chips and numerous nibbles (which are of course hidden by the gallery when the shade is in use); there are some minor manufacturing imperfections in the glass including some tiny air bubbles. Please note that the shade is fairly heavy (about 550g / 1.2lb); if it is to be used as a pendant light we would therefore recommend that it be hung from a fitting with a chain or sturdy stem.
