A large Art Deco horizontally ribbed globe-type lampshade / light shade, c.1930s, suitable for use with a ceiling fitting or standard lamp, in pink flake glass (with shiny surface to exterior) with horizontal gilt banding, measuring approximately 19cm (7.5in) in height and 20cm (7.85in) in diameter (max), with the opening measuring approximately 10.1cm (4in) in external diameter. The shade will need to be used in conjunction with a 4 1/4 inch gallery (shade holder); this is not included, but reproductions in brass or chrome finish are available from specialist dealers. There is some age wear including slight scratching and scuffing, slight marking including several tiny white paint specks, and slight wear to the gilt; the edge of the opening is somewhat rough with small chips and nibbles (which are of course hidden by the gallery when the shade is in use); there are some minor manufacturing imperfections in the glass including some lines and air bubbles. Please note that the shade is comparatively heavy (about 690g / 1.5lb); if it is to be used as a pendant light we would therefore recommend that it be hung from a fitting with a chain or sturdy stem.
