A large c.1940s globe-type lampshade / light shade in a characteristically Art Deco "waisted" shape, suitable for use with a ceiling fitting or standard lamp, in pale amber glass with external frosting and horizontal gilt banding, measuring approximately 20cm (7.85in) in height and 20cm (7.85in) in diameter (max), with the opening measuring approximately 10cm (3.95in) in external diameter. The shade will need to be used in conjunction with a 4 1/4 inch gallery (shade holder); this is not included, but reproductions in brass or chrome finish are available from specialist dealers. There is slight marking to the frosted areas (including a small patch which appears less white than the rest), together with some scratching and age wear to the clear areas and slight wear to the gilt; there are some chips and nibbles to the opening (which are of course hidden by the gallery when the shade is in use); there are some minor manufacturing imperfections in the glass including lines and numerous small air bubbles. Please note that the shade is comparatively heavy (about 720g / 1.6lb); if it is to be used as a pendant light we would therefore recommend that it be hung from a fitting with a chain or sturdy stem.
