A large Art Deco globe-type lampshade / light shade, c.1930s, suitable for use with a ceiling fitting or standard lamp, in dusky pink flake glass (with shiny surface to exterior, and more brownish in colour to the centre than the sides) with horizontal gilt and dark red banding, measuring approximately 18.5cm (7.3in) in height and 20cm (7.85in) in diameter (max), with the opening measuring approximately 10cm (3.95in) in external diameter. The shade will need to be used in conjunction with a 4 1/4 inch gallery (shade holder); this is not included, but reproductions in brass or chrome finish are available from specialist dealers. There is some age wear including scratching, abrasion and slight marking to the surface, with slight wear to the gilt and some fading / oxidation to the red bands; the edge of the opening is somewhat rough with small chips and nibbles (which are of course hidden by the gallery when the shade is in use); there are some minor manufacturing imperfections in the glass including small air bubbles, lines and pockmarks. Please note that the shade is comparatively heavy (about 660g / 1.5lb); if it is to be used as a pendant light we would therefore recommend that it be hung from a fitting with a chain or sturdy stem.
