A vintage pottery mug by Staffordshire Potteries, produced, we understand, to commemorate the historic Apollo 11 lunar mission of July 1969 during which Neil Armstrong and "Buzz" Aldrin became the first two men to walk on the Moon (although lacking any commemorative inscription), in shiny white glaze with printed design in black and blue depicting - in a stylised fashion very typical of the era - the two astronauts and their lunar module upon the Moon's surface, and measuring approximately 8.8cm (3.45in) in height and 7.4cm (2.9in) in diameter at the base; the base bears a black printed stamp with a small "SP" monogram and the words "STAFFORDSHIRE / POTTERIES LTD. / MADE IN ENGLAND / P", and is moulded in relief with the words "MADE IN ENGLAND". There is some surface wear including light scratching, abrasion and slight marking to the surface, marking to the foot, and some glaze cracks to the external base; there are some minor manufacturing imperfections including slight unevenness in the moulding in places, and a few tiny bumps and the odd pinhole in the glaze.
