An early to mid-nineteenth century antique English porcelain ornamental tea cup and saucer (possibly Ridgway), in white glaze with hand-coloured transfer outline floral motifs, grey and gilt scroll borders and gilt trim to cup. The cup measures approximately 10.2cm (4in) in diameter at the top excluding handle (it is not quite truly circular), 12.3cm (4.85in) across including handle, 5.5cm (2.15in) in height excluding handle and 6.1cm (2.4in) including handle, whilst the saucer measures approximately 14.7cm (5.8in) in diameter and 2.3cm (0.9in) deep at the edge; the bases of each bear the pattern number "2/5526", handpainted in red. The handle of the cup has broken in three places, and has been poorly mended in the past with yellowed glue residue to the adjacent surface, and there is further light brown staining to the edges of the handle; there is some age wear to both cup and saucer including scratching and abrasion to the surfaces, wear to the decoration, and marking to the feet (especially to that of the saucer); the saucer has a short fault line (approximately 0.7cm / 0.3in in length) to the underside edge, and there are various imperfections in the glaze including one or two small rough patches, several tiny bumps (plus a larger bump to the interior of the cup), pinholes, pockmarks (especially to the saucer) and spot marks.
