An early American pressed glass oval bread plate, manufacturer unknown, in the "Clear Diagonal Band" (a.k.a. "California") design, measuring approximately 29 x 22.7 x 3.3cm (11.4 x 8.95 x 1.3in); although the design incorporates the motto "Eureka" - the cry of the Gold Rush of 1849 - the plate is a later commemorative piece, probably dating from the 1880s. There is considerable age wear including numerous scratches (mainly to the upper surface), some roughness together with a number of nibbles and fleabites to various edges, and wear to the foot commensurate with the age of the piece; there are various manufacturing imperfections including a few tiny air bubbles and a long linear "straw mark" (shear line) to the upper surface to the top right of the centre.
