"A present from Tavistock" souvenir china cruet set
A late 19th or early 20th century souvenir china cruet set, comprising a stand with handle (with incised number "3008" to base) incorporating an open salt cellar and mustard pot and a separate pepper pot, in white glaze with green and orange-brown decoration and gilt trim, the stand having small colour transfer romantic pastoral scenes to either side and the words "A present / from / Tavistock" to the front; the set as a whole measures approximately 12.5 x 12.4 x 7.4cm (4.9 x 4.9 x 2.9in) maximum. There is some age wear including scratching and abrasion to the surfaces, wear to the decoration (especially to the gilt), and slight marking to the feet, whilst the pepper pot lacks the original cork stopper; there are various manufacturing imperfections including fault lines (one being to the base of the handle, another being visible to the inside of the pepper pot holder), spot marks, lumps, bumps and pinholes.
