A small ornamental souvenir china teapot, c.1880s, with a large hand-coloured transfer picture of the "Baptist College, Pontypool" (with the words "A Present from Pontypool" in a scroll above) to one side, the remainder of the exterior in pink and white with gilt trim. (Pontypool Baptist College, an establishment for training Baptist ministers, was opened in 1836, succeeding an earlier academy in Abergavenny, and moved to Cardiff in the 1890s.) The teapot, which measures approximately 8cm (3.15in) in height at the spout, 13.7cm (5.4in) across from handle to spout, and 7.6cm (3in) wide, is marked to the base with a dark red round printed "MADE IN GERMANY" stamp together with an incised number "4" and the number "40" handwritten in gilt. The original lid is missing; there is a crack around the lower end of the handle with a small associated chip, together with a tiny nibble to the outer foot at the front, some age wear and scratching to the exterior and slight marking to the interior; there are various manufacturing imperfections to the moulding and decoration.
